THIRTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY
Dear Parishioners and Friends,
On Tuesday the Priests of the Deanery met at St. Joseph's Thame for the annual Mass for deceased clergy. We each read out the names of some of the deceased. I mentioned Fr. Tom. Williams, and Fr. Gerry. There have been 23 Priests serving Stonor, and from the 1920's Watlington as well. The first Priest was Fr. George Gildart 1790-1795. We have much to be grateful for over 225 years.
I celebrated my 67th.Birthday on Wednesday. Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes, cards and g gifts. It was a very good day. The American election and impending lock down formed the background of course. I also booked Christmas lunch in anticipation!!
I have just received a call from Italy. The crocuses are out, and it is warm! Just.
All good wishes and prayers at daily Mass
Fr. Michael odcs
REMEMBRANCE
As we all realise, the annual acts of Remembrance have to be curtailed this year. I was fortunate to buy a signed copy of Captain Sir Tom Moore's autobiography :'Tomorrow Will be a Good Day.'
In it he writes :"TOMORROW WILL BE A GOOD DAY. TOMORROW YOU WILL MAYBE FIND EVERYTHING WILL BE MUCH BETTER THAN TODAY, EVEN IF TODAY WAS ALRIGHT. MY TODAY WAS ALRIGHT AND MY TOMORROW WILL CERTAINLY BE BETTER. THAT'S THE WAY I'VE ALWAYS LOOKED AT LIFE ."
(APRIL 2020).
EL ALAMEIN
John Jarmain (1911-1944)wrote in his poem 'El Alamein':
THERE ARE FLOWERS NOW , THEY SAY, AT ALAMEIN, YES, FLOWERS IN THE MINEFIELDS NOW. SO THOSE THAT COME TO VIEW THAT VACANT SCENE, WHERE DEATH REMAINS AND AGONY HAS BEEN WILL FIND THE LILLIES GROW - FLOWERS, AND NOTHING THAT WE KNOW. "
